Survey seeks public input into downtown Cortland’s future

Cortland, NY – What comes to mind when you think about downtown Cortland? What would make it a better place? Which are your favorite businesses, and what types of new businesses would you like to see?

The City of Cortland and the Cortland Downtown Partnership are asking for the public’s help in shaping the district’s future.

Last month, the City of Cortland engaged a consulting firm specializing in downtown economic development to examine downtown Cortland’s economy and to help outline an economic development strategy for the next 5-10 years. As part of this process, the Cortland Downtown Partnership is asking the public to complete a brief online survey. The survey takes less than five minutes to complete, and it is completely anonymous and confidential.

The survey is available at It will be available online until April 15. Survey results will be made available on April 20.

According to Adam Megivern, the Cortland Downtown Partnerships’ Executive Director, the survey will provide invaluable information not available from other sources.

“We really hope that everyone in the region will complete the survey,” he said. “Everyone’s voice is important in shaping downtown Cortland’s future, and this survey will provide us with invaluable information on the kind of place the community would like downtown Cortland to be.”

The Cortland Downtown Partnership’s mission is to enhance and promote the commercial and cultural offerings of historic downtown Cortland. The organization was launched in 2006.
