Free Trees for Cortland Property Owners!

City of Cortland Property Owners - FREE TREES!

The City of Cortland’s Landscape and Design Commission, in conjunction with the NYS DEC, is again pleased to offer a beautiful tree to be planted on residential and commercial property owners’ right-of-way (between the sidewalk and curb) this May. The tree species will be determined by the Commission based on overhead and underground utilities, site conditions, grant restrictions, and tree availability. The City reserves the right to determine which tree will be planted at each site. You will be informed of the tree selection; however, the City will attempt to address your tree preference or other concerns. The City DPW will plant the trees without cost to you.

If you accept a tree, you must agree to maintain and care for the tree and to water it regularly. You may not transplant, disturb, or harm your tree. Mulch or additional soil may not touch the base of the tree. Unfortunately, your tree cannot be guaranteed and may not be replaced if it does not survive.

Your City property and school tax payments must be current.

If you are interested in being considered for a tree, applications are due no later than April 1, 2013.

See photos and descriptions of the trees.
