Quilt Raffle for East End Community Center

Stop by the Cortland Youth Bureau at 35 Port Watson Street in Cortland to see the beautiful star block quilt donated to the Bureau by the Virgil Quilt Divas. The quilt was created by a group of women who meet at the East End Community Center to work together on quilting projects.

When fabric and partially pieced blocks were donated to one of the divas, by a Senior Center in Ludlow, Massachusetts in the summer of 2007, the divas decided to finish the quilt and donate it to the Youth Bureau to raise funds for the East End Center. Although a diagram and pattern were included with the materials, there were variations in the color scheme that did not allow for a straightforward layout. "What was she thinking?" wondered the Divas, as they tried to divine the intent of the original quilter. And, thus the quilt was named "What Was She Thinking?"

The end result is a beautiful quilt to be treasured for many years. Pictured here with East End Center advisory board members, Diane Almeida and Richard Stock, the quilt is set to be raffled at the Center's annual spring fundraiser on April 13 at the Ramada Inn. Tickets for the raffle are available now through April 13, at the Youth Bureau's office and at the East End Center, 46 Elm St in Cortland.
