Health and Safety Night Big Success

The Health and Safety Night, held recently at the East End Community Center in Cortland was a big success, according to one of the organizers, Celeste Schueren, of the East End Community Center Advisory Board.

Many families attended to see the health and safety displays, meet Scorch the City Fire Department’s mascot, and participate in the car seat checks and Child ID Fingerprinting offered by the City Police Department. Dana Soprano of the 4H Bicycle Safety Education program gave out 26 bike helmets and Rebecca Smith and Sherri Carrow of the Heath Education Department conducted 32 car seat checks during the course of the event.

For more information concerning the Bicycle Safety Program, call Soprano at (607) 753-5077 and for the Car Seat Safety Program call Smith at (607) 758-5509.

“The goal of the Health and Safety Night was to help families stay safe and healthy during the summer months, and all year long”, according to Schueren,”…and we took some good strides toward this goal with our June event.”
