Changes to Downtown Parking

Working with the Cortland Downtown Partnership, the City of Cortland is updating the city parking program. With eight public parking lots and over 400 parking spaces, the city’s downtown lots are a convenient parking alternative for businesses, residents and downtown visitors.

Beginning in July, visitors to downtown may purchase monthly parking permits from the Cortland Downtown Partnership at 9 Main Street. “This new location makes a parking permit a much more convenient option for visitors to downtown,” said Lloyd Purdy, Director of the Cortland Downtown Partnership.

Permits can be purchased in monthly increments through December of each year. Monthly permits costs $13.50 per month or $13 per month when purchased in at least six-month increments. The city will be using disposable permits that hang from the rear view mirror of the vehicle. This negates the need for a parking permit deposit.

“This new parking permit system is more convenient and less expensive for permit holders,” said Andy Damiano, Director of Finance and Administration for the City of Cortland.

Because of these adjustments to the city’s parking system the Downtown Partnership and the City of Cortland will be conducting a marketing campaign in July and August to remind permit holders of these changes. This will include radio, print and direct mail announcements

Properly displayed city parking permits allow permit holders to park in a city parking lot all day without the worry of moving their car or getting a ticket. “Hangers that serve as parking permits are a convenient way to gain full-day access to downtown’s parking lots,” said Lloyd Purdy Executive Director of the Cortland Downtown Partnership.

Revenue from parking permits funds beautification and improvement efforts to downtown’s streets and parking lots. For more information on how to purchase a parking permit contact Lloyd Purdy at (607) 753-4270 or parking@cortlanddowntown.com.
