Lieutenant Gesin began his career with the Cortland Police Department in 1987. He served in the ranks as a Patrol Officer and was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 1994. While in the Patrol ranks he served as a member of the Tactical Response Unit. In 1997 he was named Commander of the Tactical Response Unit and later that year transferred to the Juvenile Detective Sergeant position. Lt. Gesin was promoted to Detective Lieutenant in 2000 and began his position as Uniform Lieutenant in 2003.
Lieutenant Gesin is a New Jersey native and moved to New York State at a young age. He graduated from Skaneateles Central High School in 1982 and earned an AA degree in Humanities/Social Sciences from Cayuga Community College in 1984. After transferring to SUNY Cortland, he earned his BA in Sociology in 1986.
Lieutenant Gesin resides in the City of Cortland with his wife and three children. He is an active member in his church, where he serves as a Deacon and a member of the Cortland Christian Academy School Board.
