Responsibilities
The Department of Public Works is responsible for:
- Maintenance of City Hall, Cortland Youth Bureau Office and NYS Armory
- Capital budget projects, interact with engineers, architects and contractors
- Service agreements for equipment for the sites listed above
- Purchasing: State Bid Contracts
- Storage facilities
Trash Pickup
Trash must be in "City of Cortland" trash bags and at the curb by 7 a.m. per the City Code. You may put trash out as early as 5 p.m. the day prior to your trash day. For information about your trash day, call the DPW office.

Recycling
Recycle bins must also be at the curb by 7 a.m. on trash day.
Citizen Portal - Work Requests
The Citizen Portal is an on-line, non-emergency, avenue to report issues to the Public Works Department. Issues limited to pot holes, street light outages, garbage. This portal is to report issues within the boundaries of the City of Cortland. Please click on link below to sign in to create a Work Request for the Department of Public Works.
